Commission approves loudspeaker extension for Bayview's Baby Spark festival

The Entertainment Commission approved a loudspeaker permit extension June 20 allowing the Baby Spark festival in Bayview to run until midnight. The event is organized by Imprint City and will feature fire sculptures, DJs and family activities.
Tyra Fennell, the festival organizer, told the commission the event aims to activate an industrial area on Egbert/Edwards Avenue and that last year's 10 p.m. end time limited the lighting- and fire-based artwork: "We want to have as much time in the darkness as possible," she said, describing planned Tesla-coil sculptures and EDM performances.
Staff reported the event had broad community support in the Bayview, and SFPD recommended 10(b) officers and a fire watch as conditions. Commissioners asked about nearest residences and safety for attendees unfamiliar with the area; organizers said the footprint is primarily industrial with the nearest residential property a block away and that officer recommendations would be followed.
Motion to approve the permit passed on a voice vote with Commissioners Lee, Thomas, Caminong and President Tan recorded in favor. The event is scheduled for Saturday, July 15, and organizers said they would comply with any additional officer recommendations.
The commission's action allows the festival to proceed with the approved extension and standard public-safety conditions.
