The San Francisco Entertainment Commission approved a change‑of‑ownership permit for Lone Star Saloon, a longtime South of Market bar at 1354 Harrison Street, voting in favor of attached police conditions.
Staff told the commission the applicants had reached out to neighbors and provided letters of support, and noted that Southern Station recommended approval with conditions. Gail Rubin, a neighbor next door, submitted a two‑page letter of support that staff highlighted in the file.
Owner Charlie Evans and partner Bruce described their long involvement with the bar and said they planned to continue operations similar to previous ownership, including trivia nights, occasional DJs and billiards. Evans said the owners had engaged neighbors — "I started speaking with Carol Reubens as far back as September" — and had followed SALTA recommendations for sound mitigation. Evans told the commission the proposed police conditions "don't seem like anything unusual to me" and that the owners accept the conditions.
After a brief public comment from co‑owner Bruce Jenison expressing excitement about the ownership, a commissioner moved to approve the permit with police conditions; the motion was seconded and passed on recorded ayes. The chair congratulated the owners, who noted community fundraising and charitable activities as part of their programming.
The commission recorded the motion and the vote in the meeting minutes; staff will finalize permit paperwork and monitor compliance with the attached police conditions.
