The San Francisco Entertainment Commission voted to approve a limited live-performance permit for Harmonic Brewing at its Oct. 18 meeting, subject to a Bayview SFPD request that the brewery provide a monthly events calendar.
Director Kane noted Bayview station’s October 13 message conditionally approved the permit and requested the calendar. Ed Gobo, identified in the record as one of Harmonic’s three owners, described the operation as a small production brewery with a taproom at "20 Sixth and Minnesota" in Dogpatch that has been open about a year and said the owners envision roughly one live-music event per month. "We're not looking to be a concert venue, but rather provide our customers that are in the taproom some entertainment," Gobo said.
Commissioners asked Gobo how the brewery would control sound. Gobo told the commission the taproom is adjacent to the planned music area, that they would monitor volume and use a small portable PA and mixing board; bands might bring amps but could also pipe through the brewery’s board so staff can control levels. He said the business is active in the Dogpatch Neighborhood Association and Dogpatch Business Association and that the owners prioritize neighborhood relations and cleanliness.
A member of the public, Shelby Johnson, offered remarks in support but made no technical objections to the permit on record. The commission moved to approve the permit, confirmed the motion included the SFPD calendar condition and voted unanimously recorded as Aye by Commissioners Frost, Lee, Joseph, Cameron, Perez and the President; the motion passed and the permit was approved.
The permit approval was recorded with the explicit condition that Harmonic provide a monthly events calendar to Bayview SFPD; staff advised the applicant to contact Deputy Director Maggie to complete permitting logistics.
