Entertainment Commission approves DADA Bar permit for 65 Post Street

The San Francisco Entertainment Commission voted April 19 to approve a place-of-entertainment permit for DADA Bar, which plans to relocate from Second Street to 65 Post Street in the Financial District.

Owners Timothy Landrigan and Michael (M & M Group Assets) told the commission the move will keep the bar’s “art gallery” concept and expand capacity in a larger, downtown commercial location. Landrigan said the operation will be essentially unchanged from the current venue and described the same ownership and staff plans for security and event notification. “The conclusion is nothing’s changing,” he told the commission.

Mechanics Institute leaders and patrons spoke in favor of the move. Ralph Lewin, executive director of the Mechanics Institute, described the venue as a cultural fit for the institute and said the organization welcomed DADA Bar’s planned programming. Library director Deb Hunt and longtime patron Bill Schaefer offered public support for the relocation.

Staff and the Police Department recommended conditions including advance notification of planned events, compliance with a good-neighbor policy, and sound inspections. Commissioners asked for confirmation that required public-health and building permits would be secured; applicants said building-permit drawings are complete and they are awaiting clearances before build-out.

The commission approved the permit by roll call after a motion to adopt the Police Department’s recommendations.

The permit takes effect with the conditions set by staff and the Police Department; applicants said they will continue outreach to nearby businesses and comply with enforcement requests.
