Eric Whittington said the bookstore has hosted live music for years and has organized shows three nights a week. He described a nonprofit structure that helps pay musicians and said existing events had produced few complaints. Commissioners confirmed that LLP rules apply beyond food-and-beverage venues and that events must conform to the permit’s 10 p.m. limit unless reclassified.
Police recommended standard conditions for occupancy and event management. Commissioners passed the motion to approve with attached police conditions.
Staff and commissioners noted that some nontraditional venues (galleries, bookstores) qualify for LLPs when they provide modest refreshments or donations; applicants should follow the Good Neighbor Policy and coordinate with police.
