Commission approves neighborhood permits for Limbo, Dante’s Table and arcade devices; continues one item and amends Yoshi’s permit

The Entertainment Commission approved a series of neighborhood permits: a place-of-entertainment permit for Limbo (former Estenoche), a limited live-performance permit for Dante’s Table, mechanical-amusement-device permits for Stalt House/Gestalt, and a major amendment for Yoshi’s; Grand Hot Pot Lounge was continued to a later date.
The San Francisco Entertainment Commission approved several permit applications and took one continuance at its August meeting.
Limbo (3079 16th Street): Andrea Manu and partner Calum Hutchins presented a place-of-entertainment application for the renovated Estenoche space. Applicants described a neighborhood bar with occasional DJs for private events, outreach to neighbors and a willingness to host an open house. Mission Station offered standard police conditions and the commission approved the permit with the Good Neighbor Policy and recommended police conditions.
Dante’s Table (544 Castro Street): Owner Dirk Tack requested a limited live-performance permit for low-level dinner/brunch music and occasional non-amplified cabaret. Mission Station recommended conditions; the commission amended a condition to require staff sound checks only upon police-delivered complaints, and approved the LLP with those conditions.
Gestalt / Stalt House (mechanical amusement devices): The applicant sought permission to legalize longstanding pinball and arcade machines at a Mission beer bar. Staff recommended approval to allow mechanical amusement devices and to preserve a point of contact for enforcing the Good Neighbor Policy; the commission approved the application with the Good Neighbor Policy.
Yoshi’s (1330 Fillmore Street) major amendment: New operators presented a major amendment to focus live music in the dedicated performance room, remove music from the restaurant floor and invest in capital improvements. Northern Station submitted conditions limiting DJ/promoter events in the restaurant and requiring music events to occur in the soundproofed performance venue only. Community members urged additional soundproofing and cited past complaints; other residents and patrons urged preservation of the music room. The commission decided to remove older, overly prescriptive conditions from the prior permit, substitute Northern Station’s suggested conditions and retain the Good Neighbor Policy; commissioners voted to approve the amendment.
Grand Hot Pot Lounge: Applicants requested a continuance to a later hearing; the item was continued to the September 16 meeting.
Votes on each permit were recorded at the hearing; where applicable permits were approved with police conditions and the Entertainment Commission Good Neighbor Policy.
