Entertainment Commission approves Limited Live Performance permit for Etcetera Wine Bar on Valencia

The San Francisco Entertainment Commission voted March 4 to approve a Limited Live Performance (LLP) permit for Etcetera Wine Bar at 795 Valencia, allowing small amplified acoustic performances under specified police and station conditions.

Applicant Alexandra Gertas described outreach to neighboring residents and businesses and said musical performances would be limited to acoustic-style music with a single guitar amplifier: "We want to follow, of course, what the limited permit allows us to do... acoustic music and our small amplifier type of music," she said.

Mission Station officers and Officer Steven Keith recommended approval with a set of conditions; after discussion the commission approved police conditions 1–3 and struck conditions 4 and 5. Commissioners also confirmed that the station had inspected the space and did not see room for large bands or pianos, and that occupancy counts will be set by the occupancy certificate.

A neighboring business owner, Alan Friedman, spoke in favor of the application, saying the proposal represented a positive neighborhood fit. The commission’s motion to approve passed with recorded ayes from Commissioners Acres, Joseph, Lee, Campagnoli and Vice President Hyde.

Commissioners cautioned the applicant that what is stated in the application may influence enforcement interactions: commission staff clarified that the commission typically does not rigidly limit future activity to every detailed line of the application but emphasized permit holders must comply with conditions and any police directives.

The approval allows Etcetera Wine Bar to host limited live performances subject to the police and station conditions and applicable occupancy and ABC rules.

Next steps include issuance of the LLP permit and any follow-up from Mission Station about implementation of the recommended conditions.
