Commission removes temporary patio patron limit after sound mitigation at cigar bar
Summary
After inspections and sound tests showing DBA reductions, the commission removed a temporary courtyard patron limit condition for a cigar bar but left the good-neighbor policy and other conditions in place.
A permit-holder for a cigar bar asked the Entertainment Commission to remove an extra condition that limited the outdoor courtyard to 25 patrons after the business installed an acoustic wall and other sound mitigation.
Inspector Grinelli said he conducted multiple post-construction sound checks and recorded ambient-level readings across the street in the mid-to-low 50 dBA range. Staff reported the operator also provided window treatments for affected residents and completed other mitigation steps. Based on that verification, staff recommended removing the patron-limit condition while retaining the good-neighbor policy and other previously imposed conditions (doors closed except for ingress/egress; security requirements remain in place as stipulated).
Commissioner (speaker 2) moved to remove the added patron-limit condition that had been adopted previously; the motion carried by roll call (Commissioners Allen, Nuland, Amico and Perez recorded Aye). The commission said staff will continue to monitor compliance and that the venue can be brought back if problems recur.
