On Feb. 5 the Entertainment Commission approved several place‑of‑entertainment permits and handled procedural requests across multiple neighborhood venues.
Two small neighborhood businesses in Japantown — Dimple Cocktail Lounge (1700 Post) and Pagoda (1704 Post) — applied for place‑of‑entertainment permits allowing karaoke. Applicants said each space has a 49‑person capacity. Northern Station recommended nine conditions, including security coverage; commissioners amended a condition that had specified security from 4 p.m. to instead require security "from opening until close." After that amendment the commission approved both permits by roll call.
The Raz Room (1000 Van Ness) applicant asked for a continuance to resolve outstanding application items; the commission accepted the request and continued the item to a later calendar date.
Cesar's Ballroom (20 Sixth Street) applied as a salsa/dance venue on the South of Market waterfront near Dogpatch. Bayview Station recommended 12 conditions, including a security ratio of one guard per 50 patrons; the applicant agreed to the security requirements and said he would use on‑duty deputy sheriffs for some staffing. Commissioners approved the permit with police recommendations and the good‑neighbor policy on a recorded roll call.
Votes at a glance: Dimple/Pagoda — approved (amended security-hours condition); Raz Room — continued at applicant request; Cesar's Ballroom — approved with Bayview Station conditions.
