The Entertainment Commission continued action on a Slovenian Hall permit on Feb. 5 after staff reported an unresolved planning‑department issue and neighbors described persistent weekend noise, late‑night events and poor notice posting.
Staff said planning sign‑off is required before the commission can consider the substance of the permit. Thomas Brandy, speaking for Slovenian Hall, said the venue has served the community for 88 years and needs the permit to underwrite programming; he offered to work with neighbors to resolve concerns.
Several neighbors told the commission they had been disturbed by late events that sometimes ran past 2 a.m., reported broken bottles and damaged cars after weekend parties and said public notices about the permit were posted where they were not conspicuous or legible. One neighbor said the hall had at times operated without a permit.
Commissioners emphasized the permit process requires a security plan, soundproofing tests and other agency inspections before final approval. Commissioner Hyde said bringing a long‑standing venue into compliance could benefit neighbors by providing enforceable controls. The commission moved and seconded a continuance so the applicant can resolve planning issues, and staff agreed to notify signees on a sign‑in sheet when the item returns to the agenda.
