Commission approves pool-table permit for Gold Star and grants POE permit to The Edge

At its June 26 meeting the Entertainment Commission approved a pool-table permit for Gold Star Bar (1548 California Street) and granted a place-of-entertainment permit to The Edge (Eighteenth and Collingwood), citing staff recommendations and police conditions.

For Gold Star, Jason Bebout, manager for the absent owner James, explained the table had been on site under prior ownership and that the current operator sought to formalize the license; there were no police objections or public comments and the commission voted to approve the pool-table permit.

The Edge's owner Tim Eichor outlined renovations, code-compliance work and the venue's community role in the Castro. Eichor said The Edge hosts fundraisers and community events and presented a petition with support from more than 160 residents and letters from community organizations. Mission Station permit officer Gary Buckner said the police had no objection to issuing a place-of-entertainment permit if their attached conditions were met. Community speakers, including Donna Sachet and Kyle Levinger (Kylie Minona), described the bar's charitable fundraising and community value. After brief discussion the commission approved The Edge's place-of-entertainment permit by roll call.

Next steps: Permit conditions suggested by SFPD remain applicable; staff and Mission Station will continue to monitor compliance and the permit holder will adhere to the security and neighborhood conditions as required.
