Pier 39 restaurant Hamazen granted entertainment permit after staff sign‑off

Mark Rennie and applicant Angelita Louie presented a request March 13 to allow entertainment at Hamazen, a roughly 130‑seat restaurant at the tip of Pier 39. Rennie said the port and the pier property owner support the application and that the location sits a substantial distance from residences.
Central Station recommended approval after staff reviews. Officer Steve Matthias told the commission he had met with the applicant and said the restaurant’s one‑day entertainment events had “gone very, very well.” A nearby resident who testified said she could not hear private events from outside the facility during a sound check.
Given the location and police support, commissioners moved to approve the placement permit by roll call; the motion passed with all present voting Aye. The license remains contingent on any outstanding approvals from port, planning or building inspection as required by staff.
The commission noted the benefit of additional evening life at the pier and encouraged the applicant to maintain standard good‑neighbor practices.
