Executive Director Miss Kane told commissioners that "the limited live performance permit legislation...has actually been a little bit fast tracked" and asked the commission president to calendar the two‑week discussion so staff and a Planning Commission representative could brief the body. Kane said staff will provide the legislation and any supporting materials to commissioners before that meeting.
The issue concerns how the city regulates live performance in establishments that are not traditional clubs — including restaurants and late‑night eating venues. Kane said the city is still determining whether proposed changes would remove security‑plan requirements for some kinds of eating establishments or narrow those requirements to particular categories.
Commissioners asked whether any amendments to the draft exist; Kane replied she had not seen any amendments or replacements. The commission did not take action on the legislation on June 14; staff said it will circulate the text when available and Supervisor Mercarini will send staff to the June 28 meeting to present and answer questions.
The commission’s discussion on June 28 will precede the Planning Commission’s consideration on July 7 and is intended to prepare the Entertainment Commission to advise or respond to the Planning Commission’s review. No vote or change to the ordinance was made at the June 14 meeting.
