Entertainment Commission continues The End Up transfer to allow neighborhood outreach and correct application

The Entertainment Commission on April 26 continued a request to transfer permits and extended‑hours approvals for The End Up, a long‑standing nightclub at 401 Sixth Street, after commissioners raised concerns about the application’s neighborhood‑outreach answers.

Commissioner Amico said the application listed only the South of Market Business Association as outreach when other neighborhood groups (SOMPAC, Clementina Cares, SoMa Community Action Network/SOMCAN and SoMa Forward) should have been contacted. He noted the president of the business association told him the applicants had not in fact contacted that organization. The commissioner said the application includes a declaration under penalty of perjury and recommended the applicant consider a continuance to correct errors and meet neighborhood groups.

Mark Senick, attorney for the proposed new ownership, said the prospective owner (Inez Steiner) and her team are willing to do additional outreach and that the ownership change is not intended to alter the club’s operation. Several members of the public spoke in support of the transfer: Don Gardner (neighbor at 281 Clara) said The End Up has generally been a good neighbor though he noted occasional bass complaints; owner/manager Sydney Lung and bartender Debbie Green described safety measures and good neighborhood engagement under current management.

With only four commissioners present, the item required a unanimous decision; the applicant requested a continuance and the commission scheduled the item for May 10.
