The Entertainment Commission on April 26 granted a conditional place‑of‑entertainment permit to Young Chew for Playground, a Korean restaurant at 1705 Buchanan with three mezzanine karaoke rooms and a Type 48 ABC license.
Staff said Planning indicated the proposed use is permitted and the police department recommended approval with conditions that generally mirror ABC and police expectations. The fire department listed the karaoke rooms' capacity as approximately 21–22 persons and overall occupancy as 90.
Commissioners asked whether karaoke would be limited to patrons 21 and over (applicant: 21) and how a single security person would cover the establishment's three exits; the applicant said the main access point would be staffed and the other exits treated as emergency exits. Commissioners and staff confirmed standard conditions: hours by weekday and weekend, sound not audible outside the property, windows in karaoke room doors and no locks on the karaoke rooms.
A motion to approve the permit with police conditions was moved, seconded and the commission granted the permit. Staff will ensure the applicant meets the stated ABC and fire‑department conditions.
