Several public commenters used the Aug. 24 meeting to thank Commissioner Terrence Allen for his years of service to San Francisco’s nightlife and music community. Timothy Benetti, a former deputy city attorney and nightclub owner, read an email praising Allen’s activism and said Allen helped preserve the city’s music scene. Mark Lenny recalled Allen’s unpaid volunteer work and said Allen had rescued multiple businesses. Barry Toronto urged commissioners to honor Allen and said the person who replaces him will have difficult shoes to fill.
Staff announced that Seat 2, Terrence Allen’s seat, would be vacated after the meeting and that the commission expected to be back up to seven commissioners by September or early October. Commissioners and public commenters characterized Allen as a tireless advocate for venues and neighborhoods and wished him well in retirement.
