SFPD presses promoter on security plans for May 29 "Mega Club Crawl"

San Francisco police officers and commissioners pressed promoter Edgar Cruz on April 13 to tighten security measures for a planned May 29 multi‑venue promotion initially described as a "Mega Block Party" but later rebranded a club crawl.

Captain Anna Brown and Central Station commanders outlined past resource needs for similar events and urged wristbands or wristbands-plus-wristband-exchange (to prevent hand-stamp transfer), increased on-street ambassadors, limits on outside glass containers and stronger coordination with BECA (Broadway Entertainment Corridor Association). Captain Brown said the last similar event required calling in officers from neighboring districts and recommended that the promoter and participating venues help pay for police coverage through the city's 10B program if necessary.

Promoter Edgar Cruz said the event would use wristbands exchanged at venues and that he planned an ambassador program (roughly one ambassador per 100 wristbands sold). Commissioners and police questioned the promoter’s marketing language ("possible after-hours") and urged realistic advertising and stricter nontransferable identification. Cruz said he would limit wristband sales and work with venues on line handling and capacity plans.
