Mehta said the additional funding would partially pay for two staff positions: one to provide facility support for zero-waste initiatives and another to engage teachers and students on climate action and zero-waste programming. She told commissioners the grant timeline would not change with the amendment and that SFUSD has been a long-standing partner on school-site improvements and youth programs.
Commissioners asked about how much of the existing grant had been spent and what performance metrics (KPIs) would be used to evaluate the expanded work. Mehta said the program lead, Esther Tang (out sick at the meeting), would follow up with specific expenditure and KPI information; Deputy Director Liu said the $200,000 is intended to cover personnel across two fiscal years (roughly $100,000 per year conceptually). Commissioner Ahn moved to approve the amendment, Commissioner Yuan seconded, the clerk called the roll, and the motion passed with recorded ayes.
Next steps: staff will finalize grant paperwork and follow up to provide commissioners with details on expenditures and KPIs as requested.
