Commission honors retiring member Heather Stevenson with Environmental Service Award

Vice President Wong and fellow commissioners recounted Stevenson—s leadership during the COVID-19 transition to virtual meetings, her work on food-waste reduction campaigns, the climate action plan and the department—s racial-equity initiatives. Commissioner Stevenson reflected on her 12 years of service and urged colleagues to ask where the "teeth" are in policy processes so the city can move faster on implementation.
Members of the public and department staff offered thanks. Alexa Kelty, residential zero-waste coordinator, thanked Stevenson for her role in launching food-waste reduction efforts and for participating in regional commitments. Remote commenters David Bilbao and others also expressed appreciation.
The commission paused for a brief portrait and acknowledged Commissioner Stevenson—s decades of public service. There was no formal action tied to the award.
