Joint resolution on women and the environment adopted after edits

Commissioners from both the Commission on the Status of Women and the Commission on the Environment debated and adopted a joint resolution that memorializes the joint meeting and highlights shared concerns where gender and climate intersect.

Commissioners proposed edits to clarify language on social impacts and equity. One amendment rewrote a line to read, as suggested in discussion, to "reduce instances of and impacts of domestic violence, sexual harassment, and homelessness, and improve employment and workplace equity." During public comment on the resolution, a representative speaking for the San Francisco Forest Alliance urged the commissions to ban the city's use of glyphosate and other herbicides, citing a jury verdict in a product‑liability trial and research concerns about herbicide toxicity. The Alliance asked the city to remove glyphosate from the reduced‑risk pesticide list and to stop leaving herbicide‑treated plants in parks and public areas; the public comment was received but no immediate policy change was made at the meeting.

The resolution was approved as amended; commissioners directed finalization of the document and moved to the next agenda item.
