Commission honors Leah Shea for years of bicycle advocacy

The San Francisco Commission on the Environment presented its Environmental Service Award on Jan. 24 to Leah Shea, recognized for more than a decade of advocacy to expand bicycle infrastructure and safety programs in the city.
Commissioner Heather Stevenson praised Shea's work at the Bicycle Coalition and her leadership on campaigns including Car Free Saturdays, expanded protected bike lanes and Sunday Streets. "She spent her entire career getting people out of their cars and into alternate forms of transportation," Stevenson said while presenting the award.
Shea, who said she now runs the Vision Zero Network, thanked commissioners and staff and noted the opportunity to bring San Francisco's transportation lessons to other cities. "It's an extra special honor to receive this award from you all," she said.
No formal action beyond the recognition was required; multiple public speakers and business representatives also offered congratulations during the meeting.
