Director Raphael updates commission on Safe Medicine Disposal, residential PACE and Chinatown greening

Director Deborah Raphael provided updates on administrative and programmatic operations in her Director’s Report. She said the commission’s scheduled performance review of the director will be deferred to January because key commissioners were absent and that the department will pilot a staff 'climate' (culture) survey to inform that appraisal.
Raphael highlighted several program milestones: the Safe Medicine Disposal ordinance, introduced by Supervisor Chu and now to be sponsored by Supervisor London Breed with Supervisor Mar as cosponsor; progress on residential PACE financing with a mayoral resolution expected to go to the Board of Supervisors budget committee in December; a greening initiative in Chinatown with a grant involving the Planning Department and CCDC and outreach to SRO residents; and selection of a contractor to reevaluate and reorganize the energy and green building programs.
She also reported outreach successes, including publicity around a green janitorial certification effort that generated new interest and applications. Raphael said the department expects full 2015 funding for energy efficiency work through public‑goods charge and Strategic Energy Resources (SER) funding and noted ongoing negotiations with PG&E for 2015 programs.
Raphael closed by noting opportunities to screen a film featuring department staff and to continue commissioning in‑community meetings as part of outreach and program development.
