Commission on the Environment adopts resolution honoring Director Melanie Netter

The San Francisco Commission on the Environment adopted a resolution recognizing Melanie Netter's leadership of the Department of the Environment and her role in advancing a range of city sustainability programs.
Commission President Joshua Arcey introduced the draft resolution, which cites Netter's stewardship of mandatory composting and recycling, expansion of the plastic bag restriction, the city's progress toward zero waste, and work on electric vehicle charging and America's Cup sustainability efforts. Commissioners proposed a friendly amendment to explicitly thank Netter "for her contributions to the environment," which was added before the vote.
Public speakers joined commissioners in expressing appreciation; Calla Ostrander and other attendees thanked Netter for her advocacy. Following remarks by Netter, who thanked staff and commissioners and reflected on the department's achievements, the commission moved and seconded the resolution and adopted it by voice vote.
The commission also accepted a framed proclamation from Mayor Edwin M. Lee declaring Jan. 28, 2014, "Melanie Netter Day" in San Francisco. Netter said she looked forward to staying engaged with the department and city partners after her departure.
