Commission thanks outgoing member Veronese; he urges action on firefighter cancer, data and drones

The commission recognized Joseph Alioto Veronese's service with a certificate and extended remarks. Veronese thanked mayors who appointed him, praised department personnel and described priorities he wants the commission and department to continue pursuing.
In his remarks Veronese highlighted firefighter cancer and his efforts on related resolutions and fundraising. He said the National First Responders Fund he helped found had raised nearly $1 million over three years for peer-support training and PTSD resources and urged continued departmental action on PPE and cancer-risk reduction. He also urged continued attention to cliff safety, drone deployment, improved communications and data collection related to Narcan administrations and ambulance offload times.
Commissioners and the chief praised Veronese's service and cited his leadership on outreach, peer-support fundraising and public-safety advocacy. Chief Janine Nicholson said the department is meeting with the Cancer Prevention Foundation on PPE specification changes and noted continued work on drone pilot training and an MOU with the SPCA for animal-assisted therapy.
