Veloz also said the department received 15 new ambulances and is working with the budget office to prioritize apparatus replacement.
Commission focus and follow-ups: Commissioners asked about grant-writing capacity, fleet-replacement metrics (mileage, pump/aerial/pump hours) and requested breakdowns of the graduating class by gender and other diversity measures at the next report. Assistant Deputy Chief Tony Rivera explained that mileage is only one factor in turn-in decisions and that engine hours, pump hours and aerial hours are also used in analyses.
