Fire Commission recommends supervisors accept donated $24,417 roof prop for training

The San Francisco Fire Commission voted unanimously on Aug. 8 to recommend that the Board of Supervisors accept a donated freestanding roof prop valued at $24,417 from J and J Roof Prop for the Fire Departments training division.
Joel Sotto, the departments director of training, described the prop as a freestanding unit that can be adjusted in pitch and elevation so firefighters can practice rooftop ventilation, laddering and working from elevated positions. Sotto said the donation also includes delivery and installation labor and that the unit will supplement training props at 19th and Folsom and Treasure Island.
Commissioners asked about the price-range variance in the brochure and whether the manufacturer is local; Sotto said the unit is a larger freestanding model and noted the company and some manufacturing around the Bay Area (Florin Industries, Brisbane). Commissioners requested a formal acknowledgement letter to the donor.
The item was moved, seconded and approved unanimously; the resolution will be forwarded to the Board of Supervisors for final acceptance.
