Mark Corso, Director of Finance and Planning, told the commission he expected about $78,000 remained in the 150th‑anniversary account established for event fundraising, but that those funds are held in a Guardians account outside the city treasury and are not under commission control. Corso said the Guardians had agreed to provide insurance documentation and an updated financial report by April 25; the city had not received the final paperwork as of the meeting.
Options discussed at recent Guardians meetings include a temporary modular shelter (estimates discussed in committee ranged from tens of thousands for a basic cover to higher costs for powered, climate‑controlled storage) or a longer‑term museum solution; selling rigs for restoration funds was also floated but faced opposition from members who wish to retain the rigs. Assistant Deputy Chief Tony Rivera reported several rigs are in secured storage on Treasure Island while others remain behind Station 9.
Next steps: commissioners asked the department and Director Corso to verify the Guardians’ submitted insurance and financial reports, request any remaining documentation from the Guardians, and work to complete the MOU for commission review. No final decision or funding appropriation was made at the April 25 meeting.
