Fire Commission adopts SFFD strategic plan 2016'2020 unanimously

After a year-and-a-half committee process, the commission unanimously adopted the San Francisco Fire Department's 2016'2020 strategic plan covering operations, community programs, wellness, infrastructure and recruitment; the plan will act as a living document with annual reporting.
The Fire Commission unanimously adopted the San Francisco Fire Department's Strategic Plan for 2016 through 2020 at its Jan. 11 meeting.
Deputy Director Mark Corso summarized the plan's five focus areas: operations; community programs and partnerships; health and wellness; infrastructure; and recruitment, staffing and training. Corso said a cross-disciplinary strategic-planning committee worked for about 18 months to produce the draft, which integrated input from command staff, rank-and-file representatives, union leadership and outside stakeholders.
Public commenter and retired assistant deputy chief Bridal O'Leary, a committee member, urged adoption and noted opportunities such as instructional-service agreements with City College to support revenue and training. Commissioners praised the collaborative committee process, emphasized the plan is a starting point that will evolve, and asked the department to publish the plan with a cover general order and provide mechanisms for rank-and-file feedback and annual progress reporting.
Motion to adopt the strategic plan was moved, seconded and passed by unanimous voice vote.
What's next: The department plans to publish the plan, solicit feedback through committee follow-ups and report progress annually to the commission.
