Fire Commission honors SFMTA proof-of-payment employees for life-saving aid at Powell Street Station

The Fire Commission recognized four members of the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency's proof-of-payment division on May 25 for assisting a member of the public who suffered a partial airway obstruction at Powell Street Station on Feb. 19.
Acting Captain Darius Latrip and the commission commended Sherman Chan, Cheryl Garrison, Terrence Smith and Alan San Martin for performing bystander CPR and clearing the airway, which allowed SFFD crews to revive the patient before transport. The commission presented certificates of meritorious conduct to each employee; Alan San Martin was noted as having completed an EMT course at City College that day.
Commissioners and the chief praised the collaborative actions of SFMTA staff and SFFD crews and encouraged the department to pass the commission's appreciation to MTA leadership.
