Francie Covington elected Fire Commission president; Ken Cleveland elected vice president

The Fire Commission elected Vice President Francie Covington as the new Commission president on Jan. 13 and selected Commissioner Ken Cleveland as vice president.
Outgoing President Andrea Evans opened the nominations and praised her colleagues and the department. Vice President Covington and Commissioner Cleveland were elected by voice vote after motions to nominate and close nominations were seconded and the ayes called.
Several commissioners and union representatives offered tributes to President Evans, thanking her for eight years of service and noting her role on disciplinary hearing panels and strategic planning. Tom O'Connor of San Francisco Firefighters Local 798 and other union representatives publicly thanked Evans and presented remarks and a helmet as a farewell gesture.
What’s next: The new officers will lead the commission going forward; the commission adjourned the meeting in memory of retired firefighter Laue Ife Siumala.
