San FranciscoFire Chief Joanne Hayes White told the fire commission on Jan. 27 that the department is "slated for $44,000,000 specified and earmarked for a new EMS facility to replace Station 49" if voters approve the health bond in June, and that department staff are evaluating how to allocate those funds.
Chief Hayes White said late Friday the department was informed of an additional $14,000,000 reallocation of bond funds that had previously been proposed for a large animal care and control facility in the bond program. She described the reallocation as the result of changes in the bond slate and said the department would evaluate the best use of the added funds while continuing the Easter bond work to modernize and upgrade stations.
The chief said the intended EMS facility would be a deployment and logistics center for ambulance operations, and noted a likely site behind Station 9 on Gerald Avenue has been identified as a potential location. The commission asked for more detail on project scope, and Hayes White said staff would analyze options and return with recommendations.
Ending: The commission took no formal vote on the facility; the matter is subject to voter approval of the bond and subsequent departmental planning and allocation decisions.
