Commission continues Impala permit to next meeting after fire and sound concerns

The Entertainment Commission voted to continue consideration of the Impala (501 Broadway) place-of-entertainment application to the next meeting after staff noted outstanding fire-department corrective actions and a sound-inspector finding that the venue could not contain sound as inspected on Feb. 21.

Staff recommended a limited continuance to allow the applicants to clear fire violations in writing, arrange reinspection by Inspector Brunelli, and provide additional documentation requested by commissioners, including a flowchart of the ownership and organizational structure. Applicants representing Impala acknowledged outstanding work but said they had completed most repairs and installations and could assemble the requested materials in time for the next meeting.

During the presentation, applicants disclosed a revised occupancy load of 185 (fire-determined) and described plans to install additional dual-pane glass on the Broadway frontage, conduct sound testing in the neighborhood and maintain an installed security camera system. Central Station officers indicated they intended to seek a continuance as well and asked that the commission allow staff time to verify remaining compliance items.

The motion to continue was moved and seconded, with commissioners specifying deliverables for staff review at the next meeting (fire reinspection, sound reinspection, ownership flowchart). The motion carried.

Next steps: applicants will request reinspection by fire and sound staff and submit the organizational documents required; staff will report back at the next commission meeting.
