Koslovsky said the Eastcutt Community Benefit District’s interim activation at the former temporary bus terminal—called The Crossing—received the International Downtown Association’s pinnacle award and an American Institute of Architects California Urban Design honors award, praising the project’s design and place‑making. Staff then summarized the OCII architecture/engineering trainee program partnership with the Japanese Community Youth Council (JCYC), the Office of Economic and Workforce Development and local colleges; staff reported that the pipeline has produced dozens of placements and that some summer trainees received follow‑on opportunities at firms including Swinerton and Methuen.
Kozlovsky also previewed upcoming procedural steps on the Candlestick Heights update: the commission will consider the item Sept. 3, the oversight board will review it Sept. 9, the Board of Supervisors will be asked to introduce amendments Sept. 10 and the planning commission will consider it Sept. 12, followed by additional hearings before final approvals. Commissioners asked staff to include a clear summary of community outreach and any changes made in response to feedback in the forthcoming materials.
