Mission Bay resident warns of traffic, parking and safety concerns for proposed '12W'; OCII updates parking conversion and housing work

At the Dec. 5 meeting, Mission Bay resident James Donnelly used public comment time to urge the commission and OCII staff to address traffic, parking, safety and cleanliness concerns related to a proposed change called '12W.' Donnelly said residents at Arden who attended a September meeting with staff were "very concerned and overwhelmingly opposed" to the change because of increased traffic (he said the project contemplates about "450 units and more than 1,200 people"), a lack of street parking and potential impacts on school access.
Donnelly urged staff to coordinate with the Mission Bay school-access steering committee to address how parents and students would safely get in and out of the congested streets near the site.
In related updates, Director Koslovsky reported on OCII efforts to convert part of off-street residential parking at 185 Channel Street (Block 2) to make 20 below-market parking spaces available to nearby affordable-housing residents. Koslovsky said about 100 residents expressed interest and that the developer (UDR) must obtain an operating permit from the police department before OCII can proceed to a lottery for allocation.
Koslovsky also said he and Director Shaw from the Mayor's Office of Housing and Community Development testified before the African American Reparations Advisory Committee about replacement housing work and planned enhancements to the Certificate of Preference (COP) program; he noted the advisory committee sunsets in January 2024 and that OCII will continue to bring relevant items forward.
