Maurice Hernandez, chief building inspector for code enforcement, told the board that a complaint filed Aug. 10, 2018 found windows that do not open, lack of a secondary exit and nonfunctioning outlets; inspector records show a first-floor conversion without planning approval. Staff recommended upholding the order and imposing assessment costs after the owner failed to attend the director’s hearing and did not complete planning or permit steps.
The appellant was not present and no public comment was offered. A motion to uphold the order and assess fines and costs passed unanimously in roll call voting. The board directed that assessment of costs proceed and recorded that prior violations at the property date back to 2001 under a different owner. The decision concludes local enforcement action while leaving standard options for owner compliance and any further appeals intact.
