Building Inspection Commission adopts San Francisco amendments to 2019 Building Standards Code

San Francisco’s Building Inspection Commission on July 17 approved a package of San Francisco amendments to the 2019 California Building Standards Code covering building, existing building, residential, mechanical, plumbing, electrical and green building provisions.
Michelle from DBI’s technical services unit told commissioners the packet contains six draft code documents that reconcile local ordinances with changes in the 2019 state and national codes, preserve city‑specific language and capture ordinances not yet incorporated into the published code. DBI staff highlighted that shaded text in the drafts shows unchanged state or national language and unshaded text shows city changes.
Commissioners moved and seconded approval of the San Francisco 2019 code amendments. A roll‑call vote recorded unanimous approval by President McCarthy, Vice President Walker and Commissioners Clinch, Lee, Moss and Warshall.
DBI staff said the amendments will take effect in coordination with state implementation timelines and that the department will continue to ensure local ordinances and recent legislative changes remain incorporated into the local code.
No amendments to the proposed package were offered during the meeting and no public commenters objected when the commission called for comment on the item.
