Residents urge prioritizing firefighting water and coverage maps in ESER bond planning

Kermit Kubitz of the Sherwood Forest neighborhood urged the committee to prioritize auxiliary water supplies and emergency firefighting water systems rather than lower-priority office projects such as traffic forensics or medical examiner offices. He cited a July 17 civil grand jury report, "Act Now Before It Is Too Late, Aggressively Expand and Enhance Our Emergency Firefighting Water System," and asked whether the mayor, Board of Supervisors and ESER management agree with the grand jury's analysis and whether the city can provide interim portable water systems to fill gaps.
Kubitz requested that ESER reporting provide mapping data showing which neighborhoods have adequate firefighting water coverage rather than only budgets and expenditure tabulations; he highlighted Sunset and Bayview-Hunters Point as areas of low reliability and said the financial district was shown as having adequate reliability in the grand jury table he displayed.
Committee members acknowledged the comment and the civil grand jury's report was discussed later in the meeting in relation to bond oversight. No committee action was recorded in direct response to the public comment during this meeting.
