OCII and partners mark opening of Transbay Child Development Center

OCII’s executive director reported that the Transbay Child Development Center, located on the ground floor of the Natalie Gubb Commons affordable-housing development, had its grand opening on Dec. 4 and is licensed for over 60 children ages 18 months to 5 years.
Director Cessay said the center is one of more than 30 early care and education centers in high-need neighborhoods and that construction and start-up costs were funded through a partnership of city childcare facilities programs, the Office of Early Care and Education, and the Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development. "At least 50% of the childcare space is subsidized and is being operated by the south of market childcare," Cessay said, and first preference for slots goes to residents of the building.
Commissioners attending the meeting noted the center’s role in supporting families and local hiring efforts. No action was required; the item was presented as part of the executive director’s report.
