Recreation & Parks: neighborhood park bond largely delivered; citywide programs ramping up

Toks Ajike, director of capital planning for Recreation and Parks, told the committee that the department has completed the bulk of its 2008 bond work and is moving into the second phase of the program. Ajike said seven of 14 voter-approved neighborhood-park projects were open and that the Moscone Recreation Center opened in March (Toks Ajike).
Ajike reported that 65% of neighborhood-park funds have either been spent or encumbered and that remaining projects are in construction or procurement. She highlighted water-conservation projects that have achieved up to 50% water savings on completed sites and noted several neighborhood projects scheduled for completion in the coming months (Toks Ajike).
Committee members praised the progress but asked for more detailed reporting on citywide programs such as forestry and park-wide maintenance, particularly at Golden Gate Park. Ajike said a project manager would dedicate roughly 20% of his time to forestry implementation in the coming year and agreed to provide clearer executive-summary information in the quarterly report.
The committee did not take formal action on the item.
