Building Inspection Commission unanimously approves DBI budget for FY 2018–19 and 2019–20

The San Francisco Building Inspection Commission unanimously approved the Department of Building Inspection’s proposed budgets for fiscal years 2018–19 and 2019–20 at a special meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2018.

DBI finance staff presented the proposal and said there were no updates to the proposed revenues for either fiscal year. "There were no updates to the proposed, FY 1819 and 1920 revenues," DBI Finance Services staff member Dan Krusher said, and described only minor expenditure adjustments in the professional services line and the "services of other departments" line.

Krusher said the department was "waiting to hear back from the City Attorney's Office" to determine whether the FY 2018–19 work-order budget for legal services needs adjustment. He also said the net shift in interdepartmental costs was about a negative $50,000.

After brief questioning from commissioners about whether the mayor’s office or the Board of Supervisors might make further changes, Commissioner Gilman moved that the commission "approve the FY 2018–19 and 2019–20 budget for the Department of Building Inspection as presented." The motion was seconded and a roll-call vote recorded all members present voting yes. President McCarthy, Vice President Walker, Commissioners Gilman, Constance, Lee and Warshall voted to approve the budget, making the motion carry unanimously.

Commissioners also agreed to continue agenda item 3 to the next commission meeting after staff notified the commission that the scheduled presenter, Nicole Elliot, was ill and could not attend. The meeting adjourned at 9:21 a.m.

The budget now proceeds to the mayor’s office for further review; DBI staff said they would notify commissioners if adjustments are made during that review.
