San Francisco — Department of Building Inspection staff reported Dec. 20 that the city’s permit and project tracking effort is moving from planning into the build phase as vendor sign-offs near completion.
The project lead told commissioners the team has completed key 2B sessions, onboarded Qlik software to assist inspection scheduling and workload balancing, and is finalizing interfaces with other departments, including business tax and online payments through the city’s payment portal. “We expect all of these activities to be completed by the end of this year,” the project lead said, noting several interdepartmental tests are in progress and vendor demonstrations and sign-offs are imminent.
Commissioners asked whether the new system would lengthen permit-issuance times; the project lead said initial delays will be related more to user training and the newness of screens rather than structural changes to permit timelines. Staff described vendor demos and training for clerks and inspectors ahead of rollout and said further updates will be provided at the next meeting.
No formal action was taken; staff said they will return with progress reports and demonstrations once build milestones are complete.
