Brief DBI IT update; public commenters urge enforcement on nuisance sheds and more artist housing

At the start of the meeting DBI provided a short update on the Acela Permit and Project Tracking System. Project manager Sean Buellen told commissioners the department and vendor agreed on a Statement of Work setting scope, method and next steps; the SOW will be added to an amendment and proceed through DBI’s contract approval process.
During general public comment, longtime artist Wilma Parker urged commissioners to address the shortage of artist housing, cited the Ghost Ship fire as a safety warning and warned that improvised living spaces can be dangerous for residents and the public. John Lofton spoke for condo owners regarding illegal garbage sheds behind Devil’s Teeth bakery; he said DBI issued a notice of violation in February 2015, the abatement appeals board upheld the notice in November 2015 and a rehearing was denied in March 2016, but the sheds remain. Lofton asked the commission and DBI to enforce the abatement order and remove the structures.
Commissioners acknowledged both comments and moved on to agenda items.
