DBI budget for FY17‑18 and FY18‑19 approved with $500,000 grants increase

Deputy Director Tyrus Madison presented DBI’s proposed budget for fiscal years 2017–18 and 2018–19 at the commission’s second reading. The proposal includes an additional $500,000 in the Grants to City Grants program—$200,000 directed to SRO programs and $300,000 to collaboratives—and reflects prior adjustments to seismic safety funding and other departmental needs.
Madison explained the timing of budget submission to the Controller and Mayor’s offices and noted that additional modifications commonly occur before the Board of Supervisors’ May 1 submission. Commissioners praised the allocation for tenant preservation and seismic preparedness, and requested outreach/press steps to highlight the city’s investments after Board approval. The commission moved and unanimously approved the budget on roll call.
DBI will submit the approved budget to the Controller and coordinate with the Mayor’s Office and the Board of Supervisors for final adoption.
