Commission authorizes second amendment to Transbay Folsom Street MOU to complete construction documents

The Commission on Community Investment and Infrastructure on March 21 approved a second amendment to the memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the City and County of San Francisco Department of Public Works to increase funding to complete Phase 2B of the Transbay Folsom Street improvement project.
Transbay project manager Shane Hart and DPW project manager Oscar Gee described the Phase 2B scope: preparation and review of 100% construction documentation, bidding and contracting services, construction management and inspection. The streetscape improvements include granite pavers, colored concrete, widened sidewalks, new lighting and signals, rain gardens, street furniture and protected cycle track bike lanes between Second and Spear streets.
Staff told the commission that MTA and other divisions will participate in final reviews and contract negotiations. The net additional cost for the proposed second amendment was presented as $283,268, producing a total contract amount of $1,112,791 for the DPW work in this phase. The cover memo referenced prior approved phases (Phase I and Phase 2A) and noted Subphase 2C (construction contract) will return for future authorization.
With no public speakers on the item, a motion to approve the second amendment was moved and seconded; the commission approved the amendment on a 5–0 roll call.
Staff indicated that approval will allow work to continue through completion of construction documents and into bidding for the Transbay Folsom Street improvements.
