City offers grants and rapid-response support to small businesses after Gary/Parker fire

Jorge Rivas said city rapid-response teams assessed businesses and employees soon after the incident, identified one directly impacted business (Hong Kong Lounge) and two nonprofits (Huckleberry and Human Services Network, a subtenant). Staff held an orientation attended by 14 of the 25 employees from the impacted organizations and deployed the Disaster Relief Fund — grants of up to $10,000 — to support recovery costs such as wages, equipment replacement and relocation expenses.
Rivas said Hong Kong Lounge has applied for and received funds, Huckleberry has applied, and Human Services Network has expressed interest and may apply within 12 months of the incident.
What’s next: City staff will continue outreach and application support for eligible businesses and nonprofits.
