City plans Great ShakeOut school drill, Marina Green commemoration and first WEA test for Loma Prieta 30th anniversary

• Marina Green commemoration and resource fair: an afternoon event at the Marina Green will include a short speaking program (the mayor and other elected officials were listed as participants), displays of first‑responder equipment and a resource fair with public‑ and private‑sector organizations and nonprofits offering readiness information.
• Wireless Emergency Alert test: the city intends to conduct a WEA test — similar to Amber Alerts — in coordination with stakeholders. The test’s message will be labeled as a test, reference the 30th anniversary and direct residents to sf72.org for preparedness resources; a stakeholder call and public outreach campaign are planned to minimize surprise.
Council members thanked staff and emphasized outreach to vulnerable populations and coordination with departments and private partners. The mayor’s office will coordinate interdepartmental planning meetings in the week before the events.
