City officials described an extensive Fleet Week program focused on training and disaster-response interoperability, highlighting a Defense Support of Civil Authorities (DISCA) rehearsal set for Oct. 5 at Pier 50 and an Oct. 6 demonstration of Marine Corps urban search-and-rescue deliveries and an MV-22 landing at Moffett Field.
The briefing said the DISCA rehearsal would include offloading supplies from the USS Somerset, staging at Pier 50 and practicing logistics for large-scale civilian support. Officials noted interoperable trainings with the fire department and EMS ride-alongs, a medical peer-to-peer seminar and senior-leadership seminars to improve lifeline coordination.
"Fleet Week brings all of these, the first responders, federal, state, and local government disaster response agencies together," a city official said, describing how exercises supplement the public-facing air show and parade of ships. The city's concept of operations plan for Fleet Week will be reviewed with key partners next week.
No policy decisions or funding votes were taken; the presentation framed Fleet Week primarily as a training and coordination opportunity to strengthen multiagency response.
