Commission notes code-enforcement standardization and rooftop-solar ordinances are moving into effect

At the April 20 meeting, DBI legislative staff told the Building Inspection Commission that two ordinances the Commission previously reviewed have completed Board action and are expected to take effect soon. Bill Strachan (Legislative Affairs) said the code-enforcement standardization ordinance (Board File 151,085) and the rooftop solar requirement (Board File 160,154) had passed the Board and were expected to be signed by the mayor; staff described June 1, 2016 as the operative date for standardization measures. Strachan told commissioners the code-enforcement ordinance requires departments to report quarterly on notices of violation, orders of abatement and related action and directs the City Administrator to prepare model forms for citywide use; he added that the rooftop item aims to move beyond "solar-ready" planning to require outright installation on 15% of rooftops as a long-term clean-energy measure. Commissioners agreed there was no need to re-vote at the BIC since the Board had already acted and the mayoral signature was anticipated.
