The Abatement Appeals Board met briefly on Feb. 17. The board acknowledged that staff had already abated case number 6814247 at the Sagamore Street address, and that no appellants were present for a hearing. Ed Sweeney, secretary of the appeals board, said staff had visited the property and found "no creation of an illegal unit at this property address," and that the Department of Building Inspection "recommends to abate the violation" and to waive assessed costs related to the case.
Board members asked whether any action by the board was required; the chair and staff said no formal hearing or vote was necessary and that the public acknowledgement on the record was performed because noticing had already been completed. The board did not take a formal vote on the case during the meeting.
Separately, the board postponed action on approval of the minutes after the presiding officer noted the agenda listed the wrong date for the minutes. A commissioner asked whether the board could amend the date and vote immediately; staff responded the item must be re-noticed, so the board agreed to continue that agenda item.
The meeting included a short welcome to two new commissioners (the record contains inconsistent spellings: "Conston" and "Conson"); board members expressed looking forward to working together. The board opened general public comment and received none.
A motion to adjourn was moved and seconded on the record (mover and seconder not specified). Members present said "Aye," and the chair declared the meeting adjourned at 9:14 a.m., with a note that the body would reconvene as the Building Inspection Commission at 9:30 a.m.
No formal votes on board actions or policy changes were taken during this session. The only substantive staff action reported was the staff-initiated abatement of case 6814247 and the Department of Building Inspection's recommendation to waive assessed costs.
