Anne Cronenberg of the Department of Public Health and Andrea Davis, an exercise planner, briefed the council on imminent exercises and outreach tied to seismic preparedness.
Andrea Davis previewed an August 9 building-specific earthquake exercise at the Ferry Building including a drop-cover-hold drill followed by an evacuation and an after-action conference; Davis said a tabletop dress rehearsal already involved about 100 attendees. She also emphasized private-sector partnerships and asked departments to review preplanning materials.
Anne Cronenberg described "The Big Rumble," a citywide commemoration of the Loma Prieta earthquake set for Oct. 13'17 that will include an evening reception and public panel, the Oct. 15 ShakeOut citywide drill and Oct. 17 neighborhood preparedness/resource fairs in Marina, Richmond, Mission and Bayview. The campaign includes culturally competent outreach, multilingual materials, and 25,000 foldable pocket maps with local resource listings.
Officials said the events aim to increase individual and neighborhood preparedness and to leverage private and nonprofit partners, including the Red Cross and local community organizations. No formal actions were taken; staff will continue outreach and finalize exercise plans.
